The Story of SPACE-DX — Built by a Ham, for Hams

My journey in ham radio began back in 1988, when I first discovered the magic of reaching the world through nothing more than a piece of wire, some engineering curiosity, and a passion for communication. I was born in Portugal, but my studies took me across several countries, giving me a broad background in engineering, design, and problem-solving—skills that would later shape everything I build.

About six years ago, after decades on the air, I decided to create my first HF antenna. I wasn’t trying to start a business. I simply wanted an antenna that performed the way I believed an antenna should.
The result surprised even me—its performance was exceptional. Soon, other operators began asking if I could build one for them too. One antenna became two. Two became ten.

And that’s how, two years later, SPACE-DX was born—an independent antenna company focused entirely on high-performance DX solutions for serious operators.

From day one, our philosophy has been simple: performance first.
But achieving true performance isn’t easy. I quickly discovered that the market didn’t offer the quality of parts I wanted—not the strength, not the precision, not the durability. So I did what most hams do when they’re not satisfied: I built my own.

Today, SPACE-DX produces not only complete antennas, but also a full line of custom-engineered components designed to optimize efficiency, reliability, and long-term stability. Every part exists for a reason. Every design comes from real operating experience. And every antenna is built by someone who has lived and breathed ham radio for nearly four decades.

SPACE-DX isn’t just a business—it’s the evolution of a lifetime passion.
And it’s designed for operators who believe, like I do, that performance is everything.
